There has been clamour for presidential candidates from both North and South. The Southerners, especially the eastern zone of the southern states, wants the presidency more than others. The North wants presidency zoned to them, the south also wants the presidency.
I have no problem with anywhere the presidency is zoned, whether North or South, whether APC or PDP. They are all the same people. Most people making noise in APC today are from PDP. They were part of those who destroyed the nation, stole our money and kept them in foreign banks.
Many of these politicians clamouring for presidency are ethnic jingoists. They are only interested in presidency being zoned to their area and not for the development of the nation. My problem is that these people just want to have the president in their area undermining whether the president can perform or not.
I do not think in that direction. I think of someone who can develop the nation equitably and end the crisis in Nigeria. It is not about ethnicity or religion, it is about a person who has vision to drive the nation and bring out the best. If I’m from the South and the person I think will change Nigeria and end the crisis is from the North, I will go for that person.
The issue should be who is capable of changing the narrative and bringing a paradigm shift from the situation on ground. It should not be my ethnic group but individuals who have records of national interest and ready to meet the yearnings of all Nigerians without necessarily backing some groups against the others.
Arising from the foregoing, I see Vice President Yemi Osibanjo as the man who is well equipped for this national business. He is focused and had a good mind for the good of Nigerians. For the few days he took charge when President Muhammadu Buhari handed over to him, he did exceptionally well. And there was breath of fresh air in Nigeria.
So, this is the man who can pull the nation from the present mess. I do not care the political party he is coming from, whether APC or PDP, it doesn’t bother me. But I see him as the one who has what it takes to rescue the nation from the present economic and security quagmire.
