Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has revealed why he is silent over the issues surrounding the PDP presidential primaries and the selection of the party’s vice presidential candidate.
Since the party’s presidential primaries and the turn around in the selection of Atiku’s vice presidential candidate, Governor Wike has not made a statement regarding the outcome of the election.
His silence has given sleepless nights to party chieftains, a development which has made some governors of the party very uncomfortable.
One of such governors is Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue state. Ortom spoke on Channels TV where he accused Atiku of sending emissaries to Governor Wike instead of going to him as a person.
The development has led to confusion in the party, leading to many believing that Wike is plotting to move to another or support another candidate against the Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP.
But in a post on his presidential Facebook page, Wike said his “silence is for the selection of the right way to rescue Nigeria.”
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigeria People’s Party, Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state and others had visited Wike in Port Harcourt.
Last week, while the party was inaugurating the campaign committee for Osun state guber election where he is a committee member, Governor Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state and Seyi Makinde of Oyo state were in Turkey on vacation.
