An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Chief Olisa Ogochukwu, has commended the Delta State Government on its proposed 2026 budget of ₦1.664 trillion, describing it as a forward-looking financial plan capable of driving sustainable development across the state.
He particularly praised the bold decision of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to allocate 70 percent of the budget to capital projects, noting that such a move reflects a deliberate commitment to long-term growth and improved infrastructure.
Chief Ogochukwu stated that the emphasis on capital expenditure shows a government that is thinking beyond immediate needs and laying the foundation for a more prosperous Delta State.
According to him, increased investments in roads, bridges, schools, health facilities, and security infrastructure will create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and significantly enhance service delivery.
He expressed satisfaction with the allocations made to key sectors such as education, health, and security, stressing that these areas directly impact the wellbeing of the people.
Speaking on education, Chief Ogochukwu noted that improved school structures, enhanced learning environments, and better teacher support will strengthen the state’s human capital. He maintained that investing in education means empowering the next generation with skills and knowledge needed for a competitive future.
On the health sector, he highlighted that the budget will enable the upgrade of hospitals, the equipping of primary healthcare centres, and the expansion of access to quality medical services.
He said such investments will help reduce maternal and infant mortality, improve emergency response, and ensure that residents receive timely and effective medical attention, especially in rural communities.
Chief Ogochukwu also commended the government’s attention to security, stating that improved surveillance, better logistics, and strengthened collaboration with security agencies will help create a more peaceful and business-friendly environment. He added that enhanced security is essential for attracting investors, reducing crime, and promoting overall stability in the state.
While applauding the scope and priorities of the budget, the APC chieftain urged the government to ensure transparent and accountable implementation so that the benefits reach the people as intended. He emphasized that effective execution and proper monitoring of projects are necessary for the budget to achieve its goals.
Chief Ogochukwu reiterated his belief that the 2026 budget, if diligently implemented, has the potential to transform Delta State and improve the living conditions of its residents. He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster development, stressing that progress should always be placed above partisan interests.
