Ahead of 2027 Elections, Dafinone Urges Urhobo Youths to Embrace Civil Politics

As Nigeria gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 general elections, Senator Ede Dafinone of the Delta Central Senatorial District has called on Urhobo youths to adopt a more civil and respectful approach to political engagement.

In an Easter message released to the public, the lawmaker expressed concern over what he described as the increasingly hostile tone of political discourse, particularly on social media platforms.

According to him, the passion and loyalty demonstrated by young people toward their preferred candidates have, in some cases, degenerated into personal attacks and inflammatory remarks.

Dafinone emphasized that such conduct does not reflect the values of the Urhobo people, who are widely known for their respect, dignity, and strong cultural heritage.

He urged youths to remain mindful of these principles as political activities intensify in the lead-up to the elections.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, I make a heartfelt appeal to all Urhobo youths: let us conduct our political campaigns with decorum and maturity,” he stated.

“Support your candidates with conviction, and where necessary, critique opposing views—but always do so with civility and respect.”

The senator warned against allowing political differences to erode longstanding communal bonds, noting that beyond political affiliations, the people share a common identity and destiny.

He added that civility should not be mistaken for weakness but rather seen as a reflection of discipline, character, and good upbringing.

Reflecting on his own political journey, Dafinone said he has consistently chosen restraint in the face of provocation, maintaining that leaders and citizens alike must model the behavior they wish to see in society.

He further reminded youths that political alliances are often fluid, with today’s opponents potentially becoming tomorrow’s partners.

As such, he cautioned against actions that could damage relationships or tarnish the image of the Urhobo nation.

Dafinone concluded by encouraging young people to lead by example through responsible engagement, respectful communication, and integrity, noting that such values are essential for preserving unity and fostering progress.

The message coincided with Easter celebrations, a period he described as a time for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to shared values.
He also extended his wishes for a peaceful and blessed Easter to all constituents.
