Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in Edo State, has taken decisive action against misconduct by dismissing 13 staff members, both academic and non-academic, for various offenses.

According to PUNCH, the decision was made based on the findings of the University Staff Disciplinary Committee, which found them guilty of offenses such as falsifying age, fraud, gross misconduct, extortion, and sexual harassment.

Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, the acting Vice Chancellor of the university, revealed this information while presenting the committee’s report to Chairman Andrew Olotu and members of the AAU Special Intervention Team in Benin City on Monday.

The affected staff members belong to different departments within the university, including the Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Department, Engineering Department, Faculty of Law, and Political Science, among others.

In addition to dismissal, the disciplinary committee recommended reporting the criminal aspects of the staff members’ offenses to the appropriate security agencies.

One lecturer was dismissed after being found guilty of extorting students, having accepted amounts of N32,000 and N52,000. Another lecturer, who was involved in a case of sexual harassment, was also terminated. Although the lecturer initially claimed to have only made advances, he went as far as pleading for forgiveness at the victim’s church. The victim has been protected and reassigned to another lecturer.
