The federal government of Nigeria has stated that it has not received any official distress calls from Nigerians living in Iran, despite the intensifying conflict between Iran, the United States and its ally Israel that has recently escalated into wider military exchanges.
Officials from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) confirmed that while there could be Nigerians in Iran, none has contacted authorities for evacuation or assistance as the violence continues across the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is monitoring developments closely but noted that international flights to the affected areas remain suspended due to the security situation, making evacuation efforts difficult until conditions improve.
The announcement comes amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, including regional retaliation by Iran and involvement of other groups, which have raised global concerns about instability and energy market disruptions.
In Nigeria, protests by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) against attacks on Iran, and calls for de-escalation by the country’s foreign policy institutions, reflect the domestic resonance of the crisis.
