The 2019 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the defection of Ondo state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP. The defection took place on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
Atiku, on his twitter handle, said: “I welcome Ondo state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, to our great party @OfficialPDPNig. Our repositioned party’s umbrella is big and sturdy enough to accommodate democrats desirous of an indeed people’s oriented change.
“Meanwhile, security agents should not be encouraged to clampdown or intimidate citizens on account of their political party preferences.”
In another development, the secretary to the Ondo state government, two commissioners and five special advisers were, on Sunday evening, reported to have resigned from the APC to join the PDP in Ondo state.
This is even as Bayelsa state deputy governor, Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki for defecting from the APC to the PDP on Friday.
The Bayelsa deputy governor, on Sunday, twitted thus: “I want to congratulate @GovernorObaseki on the account of his successful defection to @OfficialPDPNig.
“His decision to join is well-thought-out and a right step to enable his administration continue the good works for the people of Edo State. God bless Nigeria.”
