There was tension in the community of Omi Adio area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after some daredevil criminals reportedly robbed some POS (point of sale) operators and murdered four people.
According to a couple of residents in the area, who preferred to remain anonymous, it was gathered that the criminals stormed the area on motorbikes, in the evening at around 7: 00 on Friday of the previous week.
They went to an area containing shops, and proceeded to raid one shop after another, specifically looking for POS operators in the shops.
After five shops were raided that evening, the residents in the area raised an alarm, which prompted others to take on the robbers.
They fled the scene of the crime, but they were given a hot chase by the community residents, as well as some motorcycle (Okada) riders in the area.
The robbers saw that the crowd which had gathered was closing in on them. Sensing trouble, they shot at them, murdering at least four people.
The residents had also sent distressing calls to the police, but operatives did not arrive the scene until after the thieves got away from the place.
According to Adewale Osifeso, the police force’ s spokesman, investigations into the case are currently underway.
