The court of Appeal in Lagos, on Wednesday, declared Prince Ned Munir Nwoko of Peoples Democratic Party as the properly elected candidate for the Delta North senatorial election held in February, 2023.
Additionally, the court dismissed the appeal filed by Peter Nwaoboshi Onyeluka of the All Progressives Congress, citing a lack of merit in his case.
The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State, had already ruled in September that Prince Ned Nwoko was the rightful winner of the Delta North 2023 senatorial election, dismissing the petition filed by Peter Nwaoboshi.
Justice Catherine Ogunsanya, who presided over the Tribunal case, delivered a unanimous judgment, highlighting the lack of merit in Nwaoboshi’s claims. The court further imposed a fine of N500,000 against Peter Nwaoboshi.
The Tribunal’s judgment prompted Nwaoboshi to seek redress in the Appellate court. However, Prince Ned Nwoko once more handed him a resounding defeat as the Appeal court reaffirmed Ned Nwoko’s victory in the senatorial election, delivering a humbling blow to Nwaoboshi.
