A 34-year-old-man, Mr. Kc Chukwuma caught with stolen cartons of noodles and beverages from a shop said that his reason for stealing was hunger.
Chukwuma said that he does not have any job capable of puting food on his table which is why he made away with these food items from an open shop in Ukwulu town in Dunukofia local governent area of Anambra state.
A detachment of a vigilance group in Ukwulu, Dunukofia local government area (LGA) Anambra state apprehended him for shoplifting.
He was alleged to have stolen some cartons of some food items from a shop in his area of abode. The arrest took place on July 23, 2021.
The suspect was accused of stealing two bags of Noodles (Indomie brand), washing soap and beverages, milk and Milo.
According to the suspect, since the shop has been open, he decided to help himself to the items as he desired.
The vigilante group thanked the people within the village vicinity for giving them useful information that resulted in apprehending the suspect.
Last month, on June 17, a 32-year-old-man identified as Ndubuesi Ndubuesi was nabbed by youths of Ukwulu town for allegedly stealing a bag of rice.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the bag of rice, saying that it was not his first time engaging in such an act.
A village spokesman commended the vigilante groups on their successful operations within the village.
Various vigilance groups have taken over the guarding of most villages in Anambra state since the police have yet to resume policing duties after End-SARS protests at which many police stations were looted and operatives killed.
