Senator Ned Munir Nwoko of Delta North has paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the palace of the Omu of Okpanam/Anioma, to commiserate with the family following the passing of Her Royal Majesty, Obi Martha Dunkwu.
Speaking to those present, including Omus and family members, Senator Nwoko conveyed his profound sorrow, deeply affected by the loss of the Matriarch. He reminisced on her exceptional qualities, describing her as a national figure whose departure has left him in disbelief.
“Omu and I have come a long way. She is a national figure. She’s one of those people you can’t help but be proud of. Her eloquence is remarkable. She was very courageous, very patriotic, and in her, I saw a very bold woman leader. She went beyond the whole of Omu and can be easily recognized and referred to as a woman king. She took up her role politically and culturally. Her voice was well respected. If I knew our last meeting in Abuja was going to be our last encounter, I would have cherished the moment differently, I would have done more than I did”, the Anioma Senator poured forth.
Senator Ned Nwoko reflected on Obi Martha Dunkwu’s unprecedented achievements, particularly her elevation to the position of Omu of Anioma Nation, symbolizing her dedication and impact on the Anioma ethnic group. He highlighted her ability to garner respect and acceptance across all spheres, including among Kings.
“It is comforting to know that she achieved what no one else had – while Omus are typically associated with towns or villages, she rose to become the Omu of Anioma Nation through her dedication. Our ethnic group flourished under her leadership, as she earned acceptance and respect from all quarters. No one questioned her position, as she consistently demonstrated her capability to manage it. Even among the Kings, she was cherished and esteemed.
“Obi Martha Dunkwu’s love and cheerful spirit touched countless lives, leaving a lasting mark on the Anioma Nation and beyond. As we mourn her loss, we find solace in the remarkable life she led, true to her beliefs till the very end. She will forever remain a beacon of strength, wisdom, and inspiration for generations to come.” Senator Nwoko further expressed.
