In a gesture of goodwill and reflection on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the representative of Delta North senatorial district, in his goodwill message has affirmed that the core principles that birthed the Midwest region are still relevant till date.
Senator Nwoko underscored the significance of collaborative efforts among leaders to foster an environment of progress and good governance. He called upon fellow leaders in the Midwest states to unite beyond political boundaries, weaving together the collective strengths of the region for the betterment of its people.
He also emphasized the need to reinvigorate the BRACED (Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta) Commission, a regional body dedicated to enhancing the welfare of the core Niger Delta states.
The Senator’s message read in parts;
“The Midwest Region’s creation was a testament to the courage, sacrifice, and love for freedom of our forebears, who envisioned a future of political and economic freedom.
“As we reflect on this historic occasion, it’s essential for us, political leaders in the region to recognize that the core principles that birthed the Midwest Region are still relevant today. The call to improve the socio-economic conditions of our region remains a pressing issue that demands our concerted efforts and unity.
“I urge us to work hand in hand, transcending political boundaries, to build a thriving region that stands as a beacon of progress, good governance, and shared prosperity. Let’s draw inspiration from the visionaries who paved the way for our political identity and continue their legacy by championing the welfare and growth of our people.
“In the spirit of togetherness, I also encourage us to consider reactivating the BRACED Commission, a regional body that aims to uplift the core Niger Delta states. By rejuvenating this commission, we can collectively address the challenges our region faces, leveraging our shared resources and strengths for the betterment of all….”
