Senator Ede Dafinone of Delta Central Senatorial District has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, describing his passing as a major loss to Delta State and Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dafinone said he received the news of Nwaoboshi’s demise with shock, noting that the late politician was not only a respected statesman but also one of the most influential political figures in Delta State.
“His passing is a painful loss not only to his immediate family but also to Delta State and the Nigerian political community at large,” Dafinone stated.
He extended condolences on behalf of his family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North, the Niger Delta region, and the late senator’s political associates.
Dafinone described Nwaoboshi as a man of uncommon political wisdom and strategic insight, attributes that earned him the sobriquet “the Political Oracle” within Delta politics.
The late senator served as a two-time member of the National Assembly, representing Delta North Senatorial District, and also held office as a two-term Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State. Until his death, he was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he remained an influential voice and adviser.
Dafinone also commiserated with the entire Delta State progressive family, describing Nwaoboshi’s death as an irreparable loss.
“As we mourn his passing, we take solace in the enduring legacy of service, leadership, and political mentorship he leaves behind,” he said, while praying for the repose of the late senator’s soul and for strength for his family and loved ones during the period of mourning.
