A group of concerned stakeholders within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong warning to the party’s national leadership, alleging a mishandling of internal affairs that could fracture the state chapter and trigger broader consequences for the APC across Nigeria.
In a statement led by Chief Emma Ejiofor, Ph.D., the stakeholders criticized what they described as an undemocratic and unilateral integration of members from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC’s Delta structure. They claim the process has occurred without consultation with the party’s grassroots leadership, describing it as a “hostile takeover” that has sidelined long-serving members.
“For years, we have worked tirelessly to build the APC in Delta State,” Chief Ejiofor said. “Now we are being treated as if we’ve been conquered—cast aside in favor of individuals who were, until recently, our political opponents.”
Key Grievances
The stakeholders outlined several specific concerns:
Lack of Consultation: Major decisions regarding party realignment were allegedly made in Abuja without input from state, local, or ward executives, in violation of established party procedures.
Breach of Party Constitution: New entrants from the PDP are reportedly being granted leadership roles without having officially registered at the ward level, contravening party rules.
Promotion of Transactional Politics: The group expressed fears that some actors are prioritizing personal gain over the unity and long-term success of the Delta APC.
Inflammatory Rhetoric: Some new members are accused of making divisive and provocative statements that have further alienated core party loyalists.
Erosion of Existing Party Structures: The integration process, they say, has systematically undermined those who have long supported and sustained the party in Delta.
A central question raised by the group is whether the new entrants truly bring the political strength they claim: “If they possess the wherewithal to win elections, why was it necessary to sideline the existing structure and essentially impose themselves?”
National Implications
Beyond Delta State, the stakeholders warn that the ongoing crisis could have damaging effects nationwide.
“This situation sets a dangerous precedent,” the statement cautioned. “If allowed to continue, it could demoralize APC loyalists in other states who fear similar treatment. This is not how loyalty, dedication, and service to the party should be rewarded.”
Call for Immediate Action
The group is urging the APC National Chairman to intervene urgently by launching a thorough investigation and taking steps to correct what they view as grave injustices.
They are also demanding clearer communication and a reaffirmation that loyal party members will be respected, not displaced.
“We believe a stitch in time saves nine,” Chief Ejiofor noted. “We trust that the party’s leadership will act swiftly and decisively to restore fairness and protect the unity of the APC.”
