Mayor of Urhoboland, Eshanekpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro, has congratulated Hon. Austine Usinefe Ogedegbe over his electoral victory at the local government elections which was conducted on Saturday across Delta state.
Hon. Ogedegbe, a PDP Ethiope east chairmanship candidate, secured a vote of 36,635 votes to beat the closest rival, Oshevire Joseph Obukohwo, who clinched 3,941 votes, a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The returning officer, Dr. Odia Omamuyovwi, announced Ogecegbe as winner against the APC candidate, Oshevire Joseph Obukohwo.
Hon. Ogedegbe, who was a former special assistant to the governor on peace building and intelligence gathering, and a PDP candidate won the election with a landslide victory against his closest rival. The election had 115,003 registered voters with 40,576 accredited voters for the election.
Akpodoro, a former militant leader and a leading voice in Urhoboland, said the victory of Ogedegbe was a true reflection of the will of the people of Ethiope east who trooped out to vote for him so as to work with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to build the local government area.
Akpodoro said the victory of Ogedegbe is a reaffirmation of the love the people of the local government have for him, noting that his ascension to the office of the chairman will create more opportunity for the growth and development of the council area.
He called on the winner to use his good office after swearing on Monday to meet the need of the people and improve their living conditions in the local government.
He insisted that the local government has resources that could meet the needs of the people, hence Chief Ogedegbe should tap into the opportunities in the area to better the lives of the people.
He advised him to carry everyone along irrespective of political party affiliations, saying it is only then he can gain the support of all the people in the area.
He also called on Ogedegbe to see the people’s welfare as his priority, insisting that he should pay greater attention to issues that concern the people’s welfare in the council area.
While wishing him well in his new role of chief executive officer of Ethiope east council area, Akpodoro called on Ogedegbe to ensure that he use his office to stamp out practices that undermine democracy and endure the people take precedence in his administration.
