Reports reaching newsroom of Emerald News revealed that Deltans of the PDP family have stormed Abuja, Nigeria’s capital territory to witness the judgment of the Supreme court in the guber case between Sheriff Oborevwori and Olorogun David Edevbie on Friday.
The two PDP swalwarts have been at loggerheads over the authentic governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in the state. The primary election was held on May 25 and Oborevwori emerged as party candidate.
Since the declaration of Oborevwori as party candidate, the two party chieftains have been in courts over the authentic winner of the election. Though Oborevwori was declared winner, Edevbie is contending that Oborevwori has forged certificates, hence he should be disqualified from the guber race.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the federal high court Abuja delivered judgment in favour of Edevbie and directed PDP to send Edevbie’s name to INEC to replace Oborevwori. But Oborevwori, unwilling to surrender, gathered his lawyers and filed an appeal to Appeal Court. In the judgement delivered, the appellate court gave verdict in favour of Oborevwori.
Not satisfied with the decision of the appellate court, Edevbie again filed to Supreme court. And the judgement is set to be delivered on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Following the court case and the support Oborevwori is reportedly enjoying from a section of the party hierarchy, the party became heavily factionalized with a breakaway group under the name Delta Unity Group, fully routing for Edevbie while Delta Political Vanguard which is said to have the governor’s blessing is routing for Sheriff Oborevwori.
The judgement to be delivered by the Supreme court will lay to rest the over five months legal fire works in the state. As at present, the PDP in the state is polarised, the judgement of Friday will determine between the two who becomes the authentic candidate of the party.
