The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, with operatives arresting a suspected armed robber and recovering a pistol, as well as apprehending an ex-convict for motorcycle theft just days after his release from prison.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the arrests underscore the proactive policing strategy introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, which emphasizes intelligence-driven and preventive operations across the state.
In a related development, on August 16, 2025, officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) conducting a stop-and-search along DBS Road, Asaba, intercepted a 39-year-old man, identified as Bassey Udoh of Custom Market, Asaba.
According to police public relations officer, Udoh became visibly uneasy when approached, prompting a search. Officers discovered an English Beretta pistol in his cross bag.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is allegedly part of a burglary syndicate and had purchased the firearm for ₦30,000. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation on August 11, 2025, the Eagle-Net Special Squad, while on patrol, responded to a distress call over a missing motorcycle. Working with members of the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NHSS), the team apprehended two suspects—Precious Okoro, 27, of ULO Street, Asaba, and Buhari Deyegu, 18, of Ibusa Road, Asaba.
The stolen motorcycle was recovered, and further checks revealed that Okoro had only been released from Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Facility on August 6, 2025, after serving a two-year sentence for motorcycle theft. Police said he allegedly committed the same crime just five days after regaining freedom.
A search of Okoro’s residence led to the recovery of additional stolen property, including a Tiger generator, a Fireman generator, and an iron measuring scale.
SP Bright assured residents that the suspects are in custody and investigations are ongoing.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to curbing crime, stating that all Divisional Police Officers and heads of formations have been mandated to sustain proactive measures in their areas of responsibility.
