The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested some suspected cultists and a gun dealer in two different operations that led to the recovery of guns and ammunition.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made through credible information and the commitment of police officers under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
The first incident happened on October 25, 2025, when a resident of Aviara community under Oleh Division reported a video shared on a WhatsApp group called “Real Men.” The video showed suspected members of the Eiye cult group.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Keme Osuluku, ordered his men to investigate. Their efforts led to the arrest of Donatus Odovo (29) and Zachariah Okeh (36), who was said to be the Eiye cult leader in the area. During a search in Okeh’s house, the police recovered one locally made double-barrel gun, one single-barrel gun, and six live cartridges.
In another operation on October 27, 2025, officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) stopped a Toyota RAV4 with registration number EPE 189 GN along the Asaba–Benin Expressway. During the stop-and-search, they found an envelope containing one fabricated Beretta pistol with four live rounds.
The driver, Mordi Emmanuel (45), from No. 74 Family Estate, Asaba, was arrested immediately. A search at his home later led to the recovery of one pump-action gun and four live cartridges.
The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda, praised the officers for their good work and thanked residents for giving useful information. He also warned criminals to stay away from Delta State, saying the Command will not tolerate cultism, armed robbery, or illegal possession of guns.
He urged the public to remain alert and to report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station.
