Widows under the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the timely disbursement of their October stipends.
In a society where widowhood often brings not only emotional pain but also severe economic hardship, the consistent intervention of the state government continues to provide both relief and renewed hope for thousands of vulnerable women.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, praised Governor Oborevwori for what he described as “compassionate and exemplary leadership in every regard.”
According to Chief Okonta, stipends for the 10,000 verified beneficiaries were paid directly into their bank accounts between Wednesday, October 19, and Friday, October 21, following the Governor’s directive.
He commended the administration’s unwavering commitment to the initiative, noting that the regular payment of stipends has brought smiles to many widows who were thoroughly screened before being enrolled in the programme.
Okonta further disclosed that with enrollment now completed for all 10,000 widows, the Governor-approved Free Health Care Service Registration is also nearing completion. The health programme, currently in progress, is expected to provide additional medical support and security for the beneficiaries.
Overflowing with gratitude, many of the widows offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, asking God to strengthen him and grant him the grace to sustain his good works for the people of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
