High Chief Government Ekpemukpolo, aka Tompolo, has thrown his weight behind Delta central senatorial district in the race towards the 2023 governorship election in Delta state.

The Ijaw ethnic nationality where Tompolo hails from has been consulting and insisting that it is the turn of the Ijaws to produce the governor at the expiration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.

The Ijaws have given various reasons why the Urhobos of Delta central, who, by PDP’s arrangement, are expected to produce the next governor, should give way and allow the Ijaws to produce the governor for 2023.

Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi

While some are clamouring for the Ijaws producing the governor, others arw of the view that the move may not be the best for the Ijaws at this point in time.

A few days back, the leader of Ijaw Mandate Group, said his group never supported the move of the Ijaw people. He said his group is standing with the Urhobo of Delta central so as to pave way for the Ijaws in 2031.

Leader of Ijaw Mandate Group

The group leader alleged that the plan of those clamouring for the Ijaws is to frustrate the youths who will be contesting for the office from the Ijaw extraction in 2031.

Also, Tompolo, a former warlord in the Niger Delta had also thrown his weight behind the Urhobos of Delta central in the race for the 2023 governorship. Tompolo did not only throw his behind Delta central, he is supporting the aadpiration of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi.

Tompolo, who spoke when Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi visited him in his Okporoza country home in Warri south west, aligned with the Urhobo people, noting that the zoning system has been of great help to Delta state, hence he would not be party to whatever will destablise the state.

According to available reports, Tompolo asserted that he will work day and night for Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi as he would for whoever he believes in.

Tompolo reportedly said: “Before long, I will work for you day and night as I have done before with all my followers nationwide when I believe in a person just like I believe in you, Olorogun Gbagi.

“I do not involve myself in destroying anything that is working. The senatorial by senatorial governorship rotation has worked for our great state.”
