Delta North senator-elect, Ned Munir Nwoko, has emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to the principles of democracy and inclusive governance as Nigeria marks democracy day, on Monday, June 12.
In a personally authored message, Nwoko noted the significance of this historic day in Nigeria’s history, commemorating the struggles and sacrifices of past heroes who fought tirelessly for the democratic ideals cherished today.
Highlighting the challenges that confront the nation, Nwoko acknowledged that Nigeria, like any other country, is not without flaws and imperfections. However, he emphasized the importance of addressing these issues head-on and working collectively to forge a better future for all Nigerians, leveraging the strength and determination found during times of celebration and reflection.
“Democracy Day holds great significance in our nation’s history. It commemorates the struggles, sacrifices, and aspirations of our heroes past, who fought tirelessly for the democratic ideals we hold dear today. It serves as a reminder of the power of unity, perseverance, and the collective will of the people to shape their own destiny.
“We cannot overlook the challenges that lie before us. Nigeria, like any other nation, is not without its flaws and imperfections. However, it is during times of celebration and reflection that we find the strength and determination to address these issues head-on and forge a better future for all Nigerians.
“Today, let us renew our commitment to the principles of democracy and good governance. Democracy is not merely a system of governance; it is a way of life. It demands our active participation, our vigilance, and our dedication to the common good. It requires us to respect the rule of law, protect human rights, and promote social justice.
“In embracing these ideals, we must strive for inclusivity and ensure that every Nigerian has an equal opportunity to thrive and contribute to our nation’s progress. We must bridge the gaps that divide us, whether they be ethnic, religious, or socioeconomic, and foster a sense of national unity and cohesion.” His message read.
