Senator Ede Dafinone has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, who died at the age of 85, describing him as a steadfast democrat and a pillar of stability in the state’s political landscape.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Delta Central Senatorial District, Dafinone said Elue embodied humility in service, dignity in leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the development of Delta State.
Elue served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2007 under former Governor James Ibori, during a formative period following Nigeria’s return to democratic rule.
Throughout his tenure, he was widely regarded as a stabilizing force within the executive arm of government, providing consistent support and fostering a productive partnership with his principal.
Dafinone noted that Elue’s loyalty and sense of collective responsibility strengthened governance at a critical juncture in the state’s democratic journey.
He emphasized that Elue’s example demonstrated that loyalty in public office, when grounded in shared vision and institutional respect, enhances rather than diminishes leadership effectiveness.
The senator further described the late statesman as a firm believer in democratic ideals, due process, and inclusive governance.
According to him, Elue’s legacy was defined by collaboration over conflict and service above personal ambition.
“In an era when public service is often tested by division, he remained a symbol of unity and disciplined statesmanship,” the statement read.
Dafinone extended condolences to Elue’s wife, Lady Esther Onyebuchi Elue, his family, associates, the Delta State Government, and the people of Aniocha North Local Government Area.
He prayed that Elue’s life of service would continue to inspire leaders across generations and that God would grant his soul eternal rest.
