The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 13, Mr. Mohammed Dan Malam, has hailed the protesters across the zone for remaining peaceful while going about with their protests.
In a release signed on his behalf by the Police Zonal Public Relations Officer Zone 13 DSP Nkeiruka Nwode, the AIG also stated that police officers within the zone have exhibited professionalism while managing the protesters.
He urge them to remain committed to their professional code of conduct and also carry out the directives from the Inspector-General of Police as it relates to the ongoing protest.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, had earlier warned police officers and their commanders against the use of force on peaceful protesters and went on to reiterate that citizens have fundamental human rights of freedom of expression, assembly and movement which must be protected by the police.
The AIG therefore urged commissioners of police within the zone to ensure that officers within their command remain focused.
He appealed to protesters to remain peaceful and guard against infiltration by criminal elements, adding that in as much as they have right to protest, they should not block highways so as not to infringe on rights of other members of the public.
The AIG went further to assure those protesting that the police leadership has heard their voice and is committed to addressing all the issues raised by protesters.
He also enjoin the citizens not to allow the misconduct by a few personnel of the Force to negatively impact on their belief, confidence and trust in the police.
