A Lagos father, Henry Airenekhuemen, is calling for justice and answers after his son, Matthias, was found dead in a swimming pool at a hotel in Ajao Estate, Lagos State.
According to Punch Newspaper, Matthias had gone to the hotel on Saturday evening to sell tickets at a poolside event.
His family was later informed that he had been rushed to Isolo General Hospital, but when his father arrived, he saw his son’s lifeless body in the car that brought him.
The police were told the family that Mattias drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool, but his father doubts this explanation.
He pointed out that his son’s stomach was flat instead of swollen, and there was foam at his mouth and nose—signs he says do not match typical drowning cases.
Henry Airenekhuemen said the family immediately reported the incident to police, who took photographs and later moved Mattias’ body to the morgue.
The police also visited the hotel with the family to inspect the scene. So far, three people, including the hotel manager, the friend who brought Mattias to the hospital, and the woman who was with him earlier have been detained for questioning at the Ajao Estate Police Division.
The father expressed further suspicion after receiving a call from someone claiming to be a hotel staff member offering to “settle the matter,” and because the pool party continued that night despite his son’s death.
The police spokesperson had not commented on the incident by the time the report was filed.
