A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being struck and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a coordinated simulation exercise in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday during a “show‑of‑force” drill involving the Corps’ personnel.
Social media footage reportedly captured the moment the vehicle made a turn and pinned the officer underneath it.
Colleagues and onlookers immediately rushed to assist, lifting the vehicle to free her before emergency responders evacuated her to a waiting ambulance. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead.
NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the fatality, describing the event as a tragic accident.
He said senior officers were on their way to the family of the deceased to offer condolences and that the agency had activated its internal procedures in response to the loss.
A detailed official statement is expected to be released to clarify the circumstances and outline any safety measures under review.
As of Saturday, the identity of the fallen officer had not been publicly released by the NSCDC.
