Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan are scheduled to preside over the opening of a new Christian chapel at Nigeria’s National Assembly on March 1.
The 750-seat worship centre located within the legislative complex in Abuja represents an official space for spiritual reflection and fellowship for lawmakers and parliamentary staff.
The inauguration event was announced in a joint statement by Sen. Binus Yaroe and Rep. Bamidele Salam, leadership figures in the Christian Legislators Fellowship.
They said the ceremony will include the participation of senior states persons and prominent religious leaders, marking a significant moment for Christian members of the legislature.
Among expected guests are former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu (First Lady), and leaders from major Christian bodies in Nigeria, including the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
Organisers describe the chapel a non-denominational facility as a dedicated place of worship, fellowship and prayer designed to strengthen spiritual unity among Christian lawmakers and staff.
They say it reflects years of effort to provide a permanent worship centre within the parliamentary precincts.
