Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state on Thursday swore into office 18 newly appointed commissioners into the state executive council. Out of the 18, there are five women.
During the swearing in ceremony, Governor Okowa gave the commissioners five important directives which he advised them to adhere to if they must succeed in the next two years of the administration.
1. He told them to work with sense of urgency. He said despite the administration has only two years life span left, they must continue working to the end of the tenure.
2. He told them to be innovative and shun the routine way of doing things. He advised them to bring in new ideas, they should be creative and take bold actions
3. He told them to be effective communicators. He advised them to take time to communicate with their staff and subordinates. He said it is a failure on the part of the commissioners if their staff do not have good grasp of the administration’s agenda.
4. He told them to learn to delegate. He said it is a function of management. He said they should celebrate the success of their subordinates. They should not be too critical of failures and mistakes of their staff.
5. He advised them to be role models both in their public and private life. He told them to live exemplary lives that will portray the administration in good light. He warned them against double standard.
