The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, has emphasized the necessity of genuine spiritual rebirth as the foundation for personal and societal transformation.
He made the call on Saturday during the Impact Academy programme, a segment of the just concluded Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK), held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The event attracted thousands of worshippers, ministers, youth leaders, students and professionals from across the state and neighboring regions.
Speaking on the theme, “A Great Change Since Being Born Again,” Pastor Kumuyi anchored his message on John 3:3, where Jesus declared that no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.
In his opening remarks, Pastor Kumuyi described humanity as originally created by God in perfection, referencing the biblical declaration that man was “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
However, he noted that mankind’s moral and spiritual state deteriorated due to sin.
According to him, humanity “went astray from birth,” leading to a lost moral condition characterized by disobedience, corruption, and separation from God.
He explained that this fallen state has resulted in widespread moral decay in societies, institutions, and leadership structures across the world.
Pastor Kumuyi observed that after falling into sin, humanity embarked on what he described as a “mistaken search” for meaning, fulfillment, and restoration.
He noted that many people have turned to education, philosophy, science, and human institutions in search of lasting solutions to life’s problems.
“Great books from great libraries and great authors cannot change man,” he stated, adding that intellectual and institutional achievements, though valuable, are incapable of transforming the human heart.
He maintained that human-made systems are often fraught with limitations and failures, stressing that only Jesus Christ possesses the power to bring true and lasting change to individuals and society.
Central to his message was the doctrine of the new birth, which he described as the gateway to a completely transformed life.
Pastor Kumuyi explained that being born again introduces believers to a new spiritual life marked by renewed attitudes, behaviors, and courage.
According to him, the weaknesses, fears, and failures of the past are replaced with strength, confidence, and divine enablement.
He added that the new birth brings fresh determination and helps believers to reorder their priorities.
“The born-again believer begins to focus on the essentials of life,” he said, noting that many previously cherished pursuits become secondary when one encounters Christ.
The cleric further highlighted that salvation produces a new sense of direction and moral uprightness in believers.
He emphasized that integrity is a defining mark of the regenerated life, describing it as unshakable by pressure, criticism, or opposition.
“Wind cannot blow away integrity,” he declared, stressing that neither circumstances nor human actions should compromise a believer’s moral standards.
Pastor Kumuyi also noted that the new birth instills new motives, particularly the desire to please God and serve humanity selflessly.
He added that it brings about a new nature, new objectives, and a renewed sense of purpose, enabling believers to live meaningful and impactful lives.
Addressing the subject of national and global development, Pastor Kumuyi stressed that sustainable societal change must begin with personal transformation.
He explained that true reform does not start with policies, protests, or political structures, but with changed hearts.
Using the example of Apostle Paul, he observed that the early Christian leader did not set out to reform cities through activism alone but through preaching that transformed individuals from within.
“There must be personal transformation before we can change the world,” he said.
According to Pastor Kumuyi, believers who experience genuine salvation become agents of positive change in their environments.
He stated that transformed individuals have the capacity to influence industries, workplaces, schools, and communities through ethical conduct, diligence, and godly values.
He noted that when believers live out their faith practically, they help to build trustworthy institutions, peaceful societies, and productive economies.
“Salvation prepares us to change our world,” he affirmed.
Pastor Kumuyi called on participants to examine their spiritual lives and seek genuine conversion rather than superficial religious affiliation.
He encouraged Christians to pursue daily spiritual growth, holiness, and commitment to Christ.
He also urged church leaders and professionals to model godly character in public and private life, emphasizing that moral revival is essential for national progress.
The Impact Academy session ended with prayers for personal revival, family restoration, and societal transformation, as participants expressed renewed commitment to living out the principles of the new life in Christ.
