With few hours left to the historic poll in Delta, the people of Delta and every resident need to know that Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is the man needed for the survival of the state. Delta has been through a lot in the hands of some power brokers. As we get set to select a new governor to replace Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Saturday, we must look very carefully so that we do not make avoidable mistakes.
Among the pack of candidates parading themselves for the plum job, Gbagi remains the best among them all. His credentials speak volume. His carriage is unprecedented. His programmes for the state are unbeatable. The people of Delta will benefit greatly from his government if voted as governor on Saturday. We must not vote on party basis as parties have not helped the state over the years. Our voting should be for a man who is credible and has the political will to surmount the challenges bedeviling Delta state.
The SDP candidate has made it clear to all Deltans that he is ready to industrialize Delta and beautify the landscape of the state. He has also said his government would offer free education from primary to higher institution for all students in Delta state. He also promised paying youths N30,000 monthly pending when the state will create jobs for them and move them in. He has planned to build low cost houses for Deltans. These are some of his laudable programmes for Deltans.
We should also know that Gbagi is set to combat corruption in the state. This is the biggest challenge in Delta. Our state funds are being frittered away by people in power and their cronies. This is done through phony contracts or contracts awarded at inflated rates to friends of people in authority. Gbagi is set to confront this menace and bring it to an end. By this, Gbagi’s administration will save a lot of money for the people of Delta state.
Again, Gbagi is set to combat challenges bedeviling individual communities. That is why he visited almost every community to itemize their needs and has put modalities in place to attend to them all. Gbagi, an industrialist of repute, has answer to the challenges of every community and local government in the state. Communities and local governments have their peculiar needs, yes, Gbagi’s SDP has a special welfare programme that will attend to the individual needs of communities and the 25 local councils in the state.
Deltans should be wise. Gbagi is a man of character and integrity. He is a disciplined man. He is a man that stands by his words, he cannot speak what he will not do. He has said that he should be held responsible for his words if he fails to live up to his promises. He is loaded with an army of business ideas that none of his compatriots in the race to Delta government house can compete with. Many others have no defined programmes for Delta people but speak of unattainable programmes.
Most of the candidates speak of welfare programmes that are not defined. But Gbagi has defined programmes for each segment of Delta people. He has programme for youths, students, the aged, retirees and pensioners, city and urban dwellers and in fact all category of people. He also has plans for indigenes and non-indigenes.
He has plans to resuscitate dead and moribund industries or abandoned industries in Delta state. The leather and shoe factory in Issele Uku, the Asaba textile mill in Asaba, he has plans to revive abandoned seaports in various riverine communities in the state. Gbagi knows that there is enough money in the state, and being an incorruptible man, he is set to block all loopholes from where money is frittered out of the state, either into private accounts or moved out of the country. This is the money he will deploy to beautify the state and create jobs for all Deltans.
Over the years we have been voting parties. Voting parties has not given us qualified hands needed to champion the development needs of the state. But now the focus is on character, competence and capacity and the political will to do and challenge the impossible. These are the major planks upon which we should make our voting decision on Saturday and not parties we belong.
Our future should be of utmost importance to us. We should not trade our future on the altar of present pleasure. We need to take decisions for our children yet unborn. The glory of tomorrow should be given preference over the present glory. Accepting gift of N5000 or N10,000 and voting for the wrong candidate amounts to us selling our future and our children’s for a pot of porridge. Gbagi’s SDP is a party we need to look up for the future of this state.
Let’s make the right choice on Saturday and we will be glad for it.
