He Saw What Others Didn’t See: Dr. Michael Nwoko Hails Senator Nwoko’s Defection as Prophetic

BY KENNETH ORUSI

Senator Ned Nwoko of Delta North Senatorial District has emerged as a key political strategist, following the sweeping defection of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Delta State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move, led by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other senior PDP figures, is seen as a significant political realignment—one that validates Senator Nwoko’s much-criticized decision to join the APC earlier in the year.

Speaking during a recent interview on AIT’s Kakaaki, Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to the senator, defended the senator’s defection, describing it as a bold and necessary move aimed at securing tangible development for Delta North.

“When Senator Nwoko left the PDP for the APC, many criticized us—even close allies,” Dr. Nwoko stated. “But today’s developments clearly show that he acted with foresight, recognizing political currents long before others did.”

He explained that the decision was driven not by political opportunism, but by the need to operate within a party environment more conducive to delivering on campaign promises.

“The PDP had become too toxic to work in. The senator needed a platform that allowed him to effectively serve his constituents,” he said.

Addressing concerns from long-standing APC members about the influx of former PDP leaders, Dr. Nwoko reassured party loyalists that unification efforts are underway to ensure internal harmony ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our intention is to strengthen—not divide—the party,” he said. “We’re working to build a cohesive structure that will deliver both political victories and real governance.”

Dr. Nwoko emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership, noting that with three APC senators now representing Delta State, the party has a solid foundation for strategic leadership.

“Senator Nwoko must be involved in decision-making processes affecting his district,” he said. “Ignoring elected voices could undermine the unity we’re working hard to build.”

As the political landscape in Delta State shifts rapidly, Senator Nwoko’s earlier move now appears to have been a calculated action—one that positions him as a forward-thinking leader in Nigeria’s dynamic political terrain.
