Kassidy Smith, an eight-month-old baby girl has died after she fell out of her mom’s vehicle and was run over by another vehicle in a street.
It was gathered that the sad incident happened around 10.30 am, Monday on North MacArthur Drive in Irving, Texas.
Kassidy’s mom had driven with her and her older children, ages 2, 3, and 6, in her car.
It seems she forgot to restrain them, despite having two car seats in the vehicle.
As the mother was turning left onto Ranchview Trail, the right-back door opened.
Sadly, the baby fell out of the vehicle and onto the road and an unidentified driver of the black sedan ran over her and drove away.
Speaking about the sad incident, Irving Police Department revealed that the baby’s mother, who is still anonymous, is not facing charges at the moment.
Irving Police Department spokesperson Robert Reeves said;
“We do not believe there was any malicious intent. We are not calling it a hit-and-run because we don’t think the person that ran over the child knows they ran over that child.
They might have thought it was a package or an animal possibly, and they just ran over it and kept going.”
However, investigators said that the child’s mother could eventually face a ‘range of potential charges,’ including child endangerment.
A witness police revealed that they initially thought a doll fell out of the car but upon seeing that it was a child, they pulled over and rushed over to help. Sadly she was dead.
Meanwhile, the police are looking for the driver of a black sedan. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Service has also launched an investigation.
