In a bold move, Hon. Ese Agbobore, lawmaker in Ughelli North local government council, has condemned the sudden and steep increase in sand prices by the Ughelli Dreger/Tipper Union.
The union’s decision to raise prices from 45,000 naira to 65,000 naira, a whopping 20,000 naira increase within just one year, has sparked widespread outrage among residents who rely on these essential services for construction and other purposes.
Hon. Agbobore, who also serves as an Urhobo youth leader, has called for the suspension of the tipper union’s operations, advocating for greater freedom and flexibility for both Dreger and tipper owners to operate independently.
He firmly believes that this issue is of utmost importance to the people, and the union’s actions are “nothing short of unfair and exploitative.”
The lawmaker hopes that by suspending the union’s operations, a sense of fairness and balance can be restored to the market, ensuring that the needs of the people are met without undue financial burden.
Hon. Agbobore has consistently championed the welfare of his constituents, and his stance against the price increase demonstrates his commitment to their well-being.
As the people of Ughelli North eagerly await the union’s response, one thing is clear: Hon. Ese Agbobore will continue to fight for the rights and interests of his constituents.
