Pastor Peter Akpe has been sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State in Nigeria, emphasizing that he did not campaign or lobby for the position but views his appointment as a call to serve the people with humility and dedication.
At a ceremony in Yenagoa, Akpe formerly the Chief of Staff at the Government House pledged to focus on service, collective responsibility, and improving the welfare of citizens rather than personal achievement.
He described the role as a “burden of trust” that demands accountability, discipline, and openness to counsel.
Speaking with supporters, church leaders, and political figures, Akpe said his new office was an act of God’s will and stressed that he didn’t seek or lobby for the position, insisting that leadership should emerge from divine preparation and public confidence rather than politicking.
He also thanked Governor Douye Diri and the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for their confidence in him.
The appointment follows his confirmation by the state legislature to fill the vacancy left by the late Deputy Governor and marks a key moment in ongoing efforts to sustain governance and development in Bayelsa State.
