The money was small anyway but it meant a lot to the church. The church felt for the life of the young man who gave his name as Ottor, though it could be a pseudo name. He cooked a very pathetic story for the pastor to get sympathy from him.
He told the pastor of a Pentecostal church in Asaba that he was a cult member and that the pastor should pray for him. He told the pastor on that Sunday that he was detailed to kill a particular Christian who was a former member of their cult group but has repented and now sharing tracts in town.
His cult commanders gave him that particular Sunday to delete the former member for daring to leave the group. But he said he was not willing to carry out the deal, hence he escaped to the church for prayers and counseling.
The pastor listened to him carefully, shared God’s word with him for salvation and prayed for him. He told the pastor that his cult gang members were in his house at that time of the discussion. He also said he was a member of the church years back in another city but fell out of grace.
He said his mother from Imo state is a member of the House of Representatives in Abuja but for his behaviour and conduct the mother abandoned him in order not to disgrace her and spoil her career.
He told the pastor that he has been a student of the Delta State University, Anwai campus. He dropped out of school due to cultism but continued collecting money from his mother for school fees and his upkeep. He forged result for his mother as his graduation evidence but never graduated from the university.
He gave his supposed mother’s phone number to the pastor who called his mother. The supposed mother picked the call, but very unhappy with the action of the son. She told the pastor that yes, he is her son but has got nothing to do with him any longer.
But she later called the pastor and pleaded for money to be given to him to travel away from Asaba out of the midst of the cultists and that she would transfer the money back to the church. The pastor was convinced to do her request on the conviction that the mother said she is a member of the pastor’s church in Abuja. And that sealed the deal.
The pastor with other church leaders agreed and some money was given to him to move straight from the church to Kano city where he reportedly has an aunty to be with for a while until his cult members would forget him.
The money was given to him from the church offering for that particular Sunday and he was directed to go to Kano straight from the church. And that was all the church knew about mother and son. But from that moment till now, neither the phone number of the young man nor that of the supposed mother has ever gone through. And when ever they go, no one picks the calls nor respond to text messages.
