HOW TO WELCOME YOUR KIDS BACK FROM SCHOOL WITH THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
How was your day? Did you finish your food? Did anybody trouble you in school? Did your teacher beat you? These and more are questions that are you are likely to ask your kids when they return from school. Or maybe you don’t ask them questions because you think it is unnecessary. Do you know that the words you speak to your kids have a strong hold on their overall development?
You may be very busy but when you come back from your hustle you should try to find out how your kids spent their day. This is because; they may want to share their day’s experience with you. However, not all kids are talkers and for such kids you need to ask the right questions.
What are the right questions? Questions that will help to build your kids confidence and make them share their experiences with you will go a long way to help them develop the way they should. “How was your day?” will likely generate a one word or one sentence response. So, you should ask “what did you learn today?” or did you learn anything new today? And then you can give accurate follow up questions.
Another important key to getting your kids to respond is to always keep the conversation simple but exciting. Don’t be judgmental but make every effort to understand their point of view and give your suggestions. These are likely to make you understand how much progress your child is making in all endeavors.
