Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi, on Thursday met and exchanged pleasantries with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the inauguration of the newly elected president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Okowa is the PDP vice presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential polls.
Gbagi, a former minister of state for education, had parted ways with the governor following an issue which Gbagi described as unbecoming conduct of Okowa few days to the PDP governorship primaries in Delta state. The development led to Gbagi withdrawing from the party, despite obtaining the governorship nomination form for the PDP primary election.
The meeting in Abuja was the first face to face meeting since the resignation from the PDP and defection of Olorogun Gbagi to the Social Democratic Party, a party under which Gbagi is contesting the governorship election in the state.
The duo met on Thursday at the National Ecumenical Center during the 12th General Assembly and Leadership Transition of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), held in Abuja. It was at the meeting that Revd. Daniel Okoh emerged as the new president of the foremost Christian body in Nigeria.
While the two had exchanged some unpleasant words in the last few days, the meeting afforded both opportunity to smile at each other, have a good handshake and look at each other’s face. Arising from the defection, one would have expected them to turn away from each other but the meeting between the two was a beauty to behold.
The broad smiles beaming from each of their faces show they have no axe to grind against each other. Both have been good friends over the years. The firm handshake, the broad smiles and face to face contact is an indication that friendship is still intact. All that transpired as Okowa always say is politics.
However, Gbagi is set to slug it out with the PDP, APC and APGA at the 2023 governorship election in the state. Gbagi’s SDP is seen as the next alternative to APC and PDP in Delta state. Nigerians and the people of Delta state are fed up with the two parties and they have decided to seek for alternative to get breath of fresh air.
Olorogun Gbagi who has demonstrated the will power to develop Delta and transform it for the good of all, has insisted that he has all it takes to build a Delta that will be the envy of all residents and outsiders. He has made series of promises and is bent on achieving them within a time frame he has already put in place.
The man described by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as an industrialist of repute in Delta, has said that he is not going to Delta government house to enrich himself, not even to use government money to purchase official car for himself but to lift up impoverished people of Delta state.
He has concluded plans for youths, students, women, pensioners and every category of persons, hence he is the darling of all Deltans as the 2023 general election clocks closer by the day.
