The Asagba of Asaba, Delta State, HRM (Prof.) Joseph Chike Edozien, has passed on.
The departed monarch who was the 13th Asagba of the Asaba kingdom, was aged 100 years.
The traditional announcement of the passage of the monarch was undertaken by the Onihe (Chief Priest) of the Asaba kingdom, Obi Chief Ubaka Attoh at a ceremony at the monarch’s palace on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the kingdom in a statement read at the ceremony by the Palace Secretary, Chief Patrick Ndili said: “With heavy hearts, we announce the transition unto eternal glory of our highly revered Royal Father, Asagba (Prof) Joseph Chile Edozien, CFR, the Asagba of Asaba kingdom.
“He was aged 100 years and the 13th Asagba of Asaba who ascended the throne as the Asagba of Asaba on 1st July, 1991.”
Ndili said the burial arrangements would be announced by the departed monarch’s family and the Asaba kingdom at a later date.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom has installed Dr. Anthony Onuora Edozien as Regent (Ochendo) of the kingdom on behalf of Joseph Chike Edozien Jnr.
The Regent was formally introduced and presentated by the Onihe, Obi Chief Ubaka Attoh.
The Regent is to pilot the affairs of the kingdom till a new Asagba of the kingdom is crowned.
