The Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled a N134 billion contract awarded for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt. The contract, initially given to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the emergency administration led by former Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), has now been revoked.
At its meeting held on Thursday, the Council also ordered CCECC to refund the N20 billion mobilisation fee already paid to the company.
Additionally, the Council approved the formation of a six-member committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, to assess and propose plans for establishing Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state to support external examinations.
The Deputy Governor, who also heads the state’s flood committee, was further directed to take immediate steps to tackle flooding. The Council warned residents against obstructing drainage systems to prevent further environmental issues.
