In a meeting with the Peter Obi Support movement, the loyal Obi supporters stated their discontent with the party mentality.
The meeting held on the 28th of January 2023 at Signatous hotel Pti.
They opined that the 2023 election will not be business as usual, rather their support would be based on individual capabilities and not party bias.
The group was led by the Delta state coordinator Rev Ogheneruese Phil an avid Peter Obi supporter and consisted of representatives of the Peter Obi Support group from all over the state.
In a unanimous vote the group adopted the Social Democratic Party candidate Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi as their preferred governorship candidate for the forthcoming elections.
Reverend Phil in a press statement said that ” We are not 5/5, we are people who are looking for people with integrity, people who have the experience, people who have a good track record. It took us time to circle on chief Kenneth Gbagi, because we were considering someone else who we felt is closer to Obi but that person did not show responsibility at all, he is not a force.
He cannot mobilize and win election. We don’t want to waste our votes.
“We looked at the similarities of Gbagi and Obi, Obi was in PDP, when the structures on ground didn’t recognize him, he left. And that is the same thing with Gbagi.
And then we looked at the person of Gbagi. Tell me how many of the gubernatorial aspirants today can boast of a facility like this in their state?
How many of them have businesses like this where they employ people?
We haven’t seen those. We see Gbagi who has made it in business, he has made it in politics, he has made it in the financial sector and every other sector. And he has proven that he is not a man of that structure.
The structure that is killing Nigeria, that is destroying Nigeria, it is politically wicked structure.
Gbagi is not a member of that structure. We want someone who will not bow to this their structure. And so it took us time to think and pray.
He has our votes and we will go from house to house, street to street to mobilize people to vote for Gbagi and we hope and pray within this one month that the state will tilt towards him.
