Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi the Ochuko of Okpe Kingdom visited Sapele on the 4th of February 2023, prior to the governorship election.
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) joined other party faithful to storm the city of Sapele, the administrative headquarters of Sapele local government area of the state for campaign.
The rally held at Sapele Athletic Club at 11:00am, after the massive Fuel giveaway at Palm Avenue Junction in Sapele as Gbagi gave free fuel to transporters and market women.
The campaign was a melee of dance, jubilation and festivities as the market women and youths in the area welcomed SDP.
At the event, there were no fewer than 100 members and supporters of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Delta State, who dumped their party for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi ahead of the general election.
Speaking on the recent unrest in the area the seasoned lawyer and criminologist shared his opinion.
” When there is hunger and no job, our youth will start resorting to crime and violence and start shooting themselves and killing themselves.
If we create employment, bring back Eternit, Top feed and all our companies, our youth lives go change”.
They alleged a reign of impunity as their reason for defecting to the SDP in order to join hands with Gbagi, a former minister of state for education to develop the State.
The defectors, led by Felix Galasi, stormed Sapele Atlantic Club, Venue of SDP Rally in Sapele local government area on Saturday January 4th 2023, to express their support for SDP and Gbagi, the party’s standard bearer.
Pitching tent with Gbagi and SDP, Galasi, said they had already collapsed AAC structures with most of the party’s exco members following them.
According to him, the decision to collapse AAC structures and join Gbagi, a former Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria and SDP was because the AAC lacks internal democracy.
The event ended on a high note as Gbagi, called on Deltans to vote for him en masse come March 11th.
