A resident of Asaba, Mr. Cletus Okafor, has reported his wife to her family members while accusing her of stealing his money.
An eye witness told Emerald News that Mr. Okafor said he gave his wife the sum of N5.000 to buy a fowl, some cups of rice and other ingredients from Ogbeogonogo market, Asaba to make Easter stew but he said his wife came back with a fowl which she claimed she bought with N2.500.
Our source said Mr. Okafor used his phone to call his wife’s mother and siblings and told them that his wife has stolen some money from the money he gave her to buy rice ingredients.
Emerald News gathered that while his in- laws begged him to calm down first till one of them come to their house to settle the matter, Mr. Okafor has started shouting on top of his voice, calling his wife a thief.
Our source said that some of their neighbours went to enquire what the problem was, they were told by Mr. Okafor how his wife spent the N5.000 he gave her to buy some things for rice and stew.
Their neighbours who wanted to hear also from his wife told him to allow his wife to say what happened.
According to our source, his wife said that she pleaded her husband to give her money to buy chicken meat for Easter since they and their kids have not eaten chicken for almost one year.
Mrs. Okafor said her husband managed to give her N5.000 which she used to buy a fowl of N2.500, ten cups of rice N1.000, a bottle of groundnut oil N600, tin and fresh tomatoes N600, cubes of Maggi N100, onions #100 and a packet of matches N100.
Before she could make another statement, their neighbours started blaming Mr. Okafor for calling his wife a thief.
Our source said that the people around told Mr. Okafor go to market by himself to avoid further suspicion.
Emerald News gathered that Mr. Okafor was told that his wife tried very well to buy a chicken of N2.500.
Some of them told him that they did not see chicken less than N4.000 at Ogebogonogo market this Easter celebration.
Others said they managed to get fowls for N5.500 and N6.000 this festivity period.
