As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2023 International Workers Day, Prince Ned Nwoko, the Delta North senator-elect has disclosed his readiness to push for good minimum wage and consumer protection laws especially on interest rate.
Nwoko, in his solidarity message on Monday, pointed out high banking interest rates as one of the factors bedeviling economic growth in Nigeria. Stressing that the banks are making huge profits to the detriment of the masses.
According to him, high banking interest rate has significantly reduced the masses access to financing. Making it difficult for entrepreneurs to secure loans to start up or expand their already existing businesses.
He voiced his readiness to push for consumer protection laws that will protect consumers from unscrupulous business practices and also a good minimum wage to ensure that workers are fairly compensated.
Nwoko commended Nigeria workers for their continued postive impacts in their workplace despite challenges faced on daily basis.
“On this special day set aside to celebrate you, I want you to know that your hard work, dedication, and commitment to your various jobs are not just noticed, but also appreciated.
“Despite the many challenges that you face on a daily basis, you continue to soldier on, giving your best to make a positive impact in your workplace and the wider society.
“Thank you is not enough. In my part, I will push and support laws that will make your labour more rewarding.
“I urge you to take pride in your work and never give up on your dreams and aspirations.” He said.
