May day: Workers demand full implementation of N30.000 minimum wage. Say Nigeria leaders are wicked and greedy.
Gladys Ekwu
As Nigeria workers celebrate MayDay, leaders of the country have been urged to implement the N30.000 minimum wage demanded by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
A cross section of civil servants who spoke to Emerald News said that non implementation of the full N30.000 minimum wage for workers across the federation was a sheer act of wickedness by the leaders.
In her own contribution, Mr. Julius Ogede said that the masses are being deceived by the governors of states who claim that minimum wage for government workers is implemented while they still pay stipends to workers.
Mr. Ogede also said that most governors in Nigeria prefer to divert public funds to get personal property for their children and grandchildren.
Also in her opinion, Mrs. Pat Omaka said that it was something to worry about when the leaders use money made for the poor masses to acquire uncountable houses and cars for themselves while people are dying of starvation.
Mrs. Omaka said that the masses have lost hope in the leadership of the country while calling on foreign aide.
Comrade Akpota Oji in his comment, said that it was painful that almost all the governors in the country lack human sympathy, adding that they are selfish to a fault but yet praise singers clap hands for them for their lies and deceits.
“Governors failing to implement the minimum wage of N30.000 showed that they are wicked and callous. They pay workers meagre amount of money so that they suffer and die while politicians who don’t do any work go homes with millions of naira thereby making government workers miserable.” Oji stated.
Another respondent, Lady Josephine Ukpa told this medium that Nigeria was blessed with enough resources that can comfortably take care of its’ citizenry but the negative attitudes of our leaders toward money has succeeded in turning the country into a poor one.
Lady Ukpa suggested that all the leaders should begin to have a different view toward their leadership to avoid seeing their position as opportunity to steal public funds.
Also Arch. Dennis Onome who attributed the situation of the country as a problem of wicked government called on all Nigerians to pray that God will punish all the bad leaders and replace them with good ones.
Arch. Onome however urged Nigerians both workers and business ones to join hands in prayers to ensure that wicked and selfish leaders in Nigeria give way for selfless ones.
” Without fervent prayers by Nigeria citizens, this result will not be achieved. The word of God says that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous ones avails much so let everybody repent from our evil ways and pray fervently for God to come to the rescue of Nigerians”, he added.
