A peace and environment rights advocate, Comrade (Chief) Mulade Sheriff, has again sent another public private Bill to the Governor of Delta State, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for consideration and the establishment of Delta State Peace building and Conflict Prevention Agency to promote and sustain peaceful co-existence among Deltans and other residents of the state.
Comrade Mulade Sheriff, who is the Ibe-Sorimowei of ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West LGA of Delta State presented the public private Bill to the State Government at Asaba, the state capital on the 24th of March, 2021.
He appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to see the importance of the agency to the promotion and sustenance of peaceful co-existence and unity among the various ethnic groups and other residents of the state, towards attracting the desired development.
He equally forwarded a copy of the Bill to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chief Sheriff Oborovwori and appealed to his colleagues to give a speedy passage of the Bill seeking to establish the Delta State Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Agency that will help to promote and sustain the unity and attract development to the State.
He acknowledged the fact that the state government’s programmes and policies of peacebuilding and conflict resolutions are no doubt, laudable initiatives and efforts by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa aimed at attracting development to the state.
He said there are still some gaps in the efforts at sustaining peaceful co-existence and unity among communities, ethnic groups and other residents of the state.
He strongly appealed to the governor, to kindly consider the important proposal for an Agency that will give a sense of belonging to Deltans to enable them benefit from the peace initiatives of his administration that has demonstrated the importance of peaceful coexistence and unity in the state. He said it will also write Dr. Okowa’s name in gold as a peace advocate.
