The umbrella body of Ijaw Youths worldwide, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has expressed worry over the ongoing conflict between the Interim Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and National Assembly.
According to the Ijaw Youths, the brouhaha between NASS and NDDC management committee and the delayed appointment of a substantive coordinator is heightening the agitation in the coastal region owing to the fact that the youths are running out of patience.
The Ijaw Youths through the spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe said though the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has not addressed the issues for its establishment, rather it has been a source of conduit pipe for corrupt politicians.
Comrade Erekefe emphasized that the NDDC master plan should be implemented in order for the funds to be used for the development of the region.
“As a council, we are part of the agitation that birthed the NDDC, hence we would critically ensure that we engage all stakeholders to resolve all these issues” he stated.
“The IYC leadership is calling on the federal government and all stakeholders to monitor the audit committee and ensure that the issues are resolved.”
“Lastly, concerning appointing coordinator for the Presidential Amnesty Program, comrade Ebilade noted that the Ijaw Youth Council is dissatisfied with the lingering uncertainty of a substantive appointment for the Presidential Amnesty Program.”
He recommended that credible and illustrious son of the Niger Delta with a grounded knowledge of the happenings in the region, specifically those who understand the foundation and purpose for the creation of PAP should be appointed.
