In a significant escalation of counter-insurgency and anti-crime efforts this month, the Armed Forces of Nigeria announced Friday that its troops have rescued 376 people abducted by criminal and extremist groups and arrested 226 individuals suspected of terror-related activities across multiple regions of the country in February 2026.
Military officials said the operations also included the seizure of 416 bags of fertilizer suspected of being destined for use in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and the dismantling of 32 illegal oil refining sites in the Niger Delta, where more than 144,000 litres of stolen crude oil and over 1,600 litres of Automotive Gas Oil were recovered.
The Defence Headquarters stressed that all operations followed international humanitarian law and urged continued public cooperation with security agencies.
