Available facts across Nigeria are indicative that no governor in Nigeria is pleased with the action of members of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The evidence are seen from reactions of governors across the country.
While the notorious department of the Nigeria police was in force, only one governor, Barrister Nyesom Wike of Rivers state was against the activities of the deadly team, while others judged his actions as being politically motivated against the federal government.
But with the outcry of Nigerian youths, other governors who were either afraid to speak or are only interested in their political gains, as far as it does not affect their families, have now risen to condemn the human rights violations of the SARS.
Their words with which they are condemning the sect are all revealing that the governors were only keeping a bold face but were feeling the pangs of the notorious group. Many of them are now joining Nigerian youths to fight the SARS.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has reportedly sacked a former commander of the SARS in the state who was retired and he appointed him his security aide. But following the uproar across the nation, Anambra youths have called on the governor to sack him and probe him.
Obiano told the youths that he had yielded to the call of the youths and summarily terminated his appointment. His name is James Nwafor. Reports from the state revealed that he was very notorious in his heydays as head of the unit in the state.
Actions of other governors like Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, all show that the governors have bottled grievances against the SARS but the action of the Nigerian youths created opportunity for them to unbottle their long years of grievances.
