The hunger situation is getting tense. Governments at all levels must wake up and feed their people. This should be done awsy from political parties.

The story came out in a supermarket where some women were buying food ingredients for their families. Somehow, another woman who was eavesdropping narrated the incident to Emerald News on Tuesday night.

According to one of the women who narrated the encounter, she wanted to dispose remaining part of rice which her children could not eat because her stew had finished. But unknown to her, a family nearby had not eaten for the greater part of that fateful day.

As she made move to dispose the rice, her neighbor whispered to her ears “give me the rice, my children had not eaten since morning.” She reportedly told her neighbor that there was no stew for the rice but to her utmost surprise she replied that she needed the rice.

According to her, she gave her the rice and in her presence the woman added oil and salt to the rice and served her hungry children. She told the listening women at the supermarket that she watched the children eat the rice with joy and happiness. This is rice the other woman’s children refused to eat because there was no stew to add sweetness to the rice.

She said she wept bitterly watching the children eating rice just with oil and salt. It was a distasteful sight for her. She could not control her tears. She never knew that such could happen. This is the present state of life in many homes in Nigeria today

A few days back, a video went viral where women were seen scooping rice from a boiling pot on fire. Each was seen struggling to scoop as much as they could for their children. It was a pathetic situation. The pot was seen releasing heat but the women were not bothered, all they wanted was the rice to save their children from death.

Government of Nigeria, and especially Delta state, must rice up to save the hungry people from dying and possibly eating their children due to unquenchable hunger. No governor should sit down at the comfort of their office and watch their people die in hunger

As a governor, president, senator, reps member, house of assembly member, you were elected to represent and take care of your people and not to amass wealth. The office you occupy is not your office, it’s for the people you represent. Every allowance that comes to your office belongs to the people and not you, not even your immediate family.
