The management of Ogbeogonogo Market Motor Park in Asaba has dismissed allegations contained in a viral video by activist Victor Ojei, describing the claims as inaccurate and a misrepresentation of events that occurred on March 10, 2026.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the park manager under Ekwe-Ogidi Integrated Resources Limited, Emeka Okoye, stated that the incident was not an assault on a motorist, but rather a disruption allegedly initiated by one Stephen Onyeka.
According to Okoye, Onyeka had entered the park, paid the required ₦500 fee, and carried out his activities without issue. Trouble reportedly began when he attempted to exit through the entrance gate, contrary to established traffic regulations.
He explained that Onyeka was advised to use the designated exit but refused, citing proximity to the entrance and unwillingness to join the queue. The action allegedly caused obstruction at the entrance, preventing incoming vehicles and escalating tensions among park users.
Despite multiple appeals from staff, motorists, and bystanders, Onyeka reportedly remained defiant. The situation prompted intervention from the park manager, who reiterated the rules, but the motorist allegedly refused to comply and eventually abandoned his vehicle before police officers from A Division arrived.
The management further alleged that the situation escalated after Onyeka returned with more than 30 individuals suspected to be cultists, who posed as vigilante operatives. The group reportedly attacked park staff, causing widespread chaos.
During the incident, the management claimed that over ₦3.2 million, representing proceeds from the day’s operations, was stolen. Commercial activities at the park were subsequently halted.
Okoye criticized the viral video, accusing its creator of spreading unverified information and promoting sensational narratives rather than factual reporting.
He also alleged that Onyeka, in collaboration with a police officer at A Division, obtained a medical report under questionable circumstances to support claims of assault, which led to the arrest of park staff.
The management expressed concern over what it described as bias in the handling of the case by the police, noting that their own complaint had not received adequate attention despite available video evidence.
They called for an independent investigation, prosecution of those allegedly involved in the attack and theft, and a review of police conduct in the matter.
The management also urged the public to disregard misleading accounts circulating online and await the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, the case remains under police investigation.
