The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) is planning to establish a caliphate in Niger State, the government raised the alarm yesterday.
Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG) Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who raised the alarm, said the terrorist group was planning to establish a Caliphate in Borgu Local Government Area as its base in the North Central state.
He told reporters in a conference, that the group was responsible for the recent abduction of the Dodo of Wawa.
The SSG disclosed that ISWAP was targeting trying to establish its Caliphate around the Kainji National Park which is located in Borgu Local Government Area.
The SSG said: “They claimed that they are not bandits, but poised to set up a Caliphate at the Kainji National Park sent by God and they are operating from the border of Niger, Benin Republic and Nigeria.
“Though Benin Republic has closed its borders, the ISWAP is operating around the periphery, trying to indoctrinate communities there to accept their teaching and forget about what the government is doing.”
